During the last years, there has been a rising debate on the role and contribution of SSH research to other areas of science, technology and innovation among the EC while its efforts have been focusing on achieving a wider acceptance and acknowledgement on the importance of research in this field from other parties who are not directly involved in it.
In the 7th Framework Programme, SSH objectives and topics can be equally found across all other themes. This fact points out that currently SSH integration has become a reality, at least at work programme level and that SSH research is indeed valuable for other researchers and can contribute to the further development of their research activities.
However, efforts need to be intensified in order to enhance the inclusion of SSH research aspects at a project/ consortium level as well. This is feasible if SSH research organisations become involved in projects under other thematic research areas. PLATON+ aims to: PLATON+ will exploit horizontally the competences of European researchers in the SSH field for the benefit of European research.
