Conference on the Gender and Migration policy

18 June 2010, Rome Italy

"Fostering Dialogue among Stakeholders in European Research: Conference on the Gender and Migration policy" aims to improve dialogue among all stakeholders working in the field of Gender & Migration in Europe such as policy-makers, researchers, civil society organizations. It is a culmination of two years work aimed at improving cooperation among stakeholders.

Why "fostering dialogue" among stakeholders?
The role of research in our society is of fundamental importance because today's groundbreaking results can influence tomorrow's Government policy.

Since the beginning of the 4th Research Framework Programme (1994-1998) the European Commission has funded about 50 research projects dealing with Migration issues. These studies have produced important findings that are relevant for policy and could ultimately improve our societies and benefit European citizens. But how can this important work get to the people who need to know about it? How can we improve cooperation among the various stakeholders so that research is more widely distributed?

What GEMMA has done?
Over the past two years GEMMA (FP7-SSH, http://www.gemmaproject.eu/) has worked hard to improve its channels of communications among all stakeholders so that its research and recommendations can be distributed more widely. GEMMA organised 10 workshops in 5 different European countries in order to establish a communication plan for identifying and sharing needs and ideas. Policy Briefs that highlight the results and recommendations for projects dealing with Gender and Migration issues, and which are readily available at: http://www.gemmaproject.eu/projects_static.aspx are just one channel for fostering greater dialogue among stakeholders.

Why this conference?
This conference brings together all stakeholders under one roof including researchers, policy makers and civil society to discuss the challenges and benefits of mutual cooperation. They will discuss their priorities for the future: Policy-makers will outline key policy areas, researchers will explain the future trends that could shape new policies, while civil society organisations will offer a perspective based on their experience of working on the field.

The outcome of the conference will be a comprehensive report outlining the plans for future cooperation, which will be submitted to the European Commission for wider distribution.

Who should attend?
Policy makers at all level, national - regional - local, researchers and representatives of civil society organisations are welcomed.
